Birding at Kinunu Guest House

Situated in a quiet location in Rutsiro district, Kinunu Wonders Ltd. Guest House has an alluring view of Lake Kivu and a unique landscape. At Kinunu, you can enjoy birding and take pleasure in community-based tourism activities.

In our green garden and coffee and banana farm, you can easily spot Scarlet-chested and Bronze Sunbirds, Tambourine Dove, Red-chested Cuckoo and different species of Weavers. When relaxing on the shores of the Lake, you can spot the Great Cormorant, Common Sandpiper, Malachite and Pied Kingfishers.

Besides birdwatching, we also offer a coffee processing experience. Hence, birders can familiarise themselves with birds of high altitudes and Lake Kivu’s shores and enjoy the farm-to-cup coffee processing experiences in one place.

Kinunu is less than an hour away from the Gishwati National Park, where more than 100 species, including 20 Albertine Rift endemics, can be spotted, along with other attractions such as Chimpanzees.

It is three hours from the Nyungwe National Park, home to more than 300 bird species, including 29 Albertine Rift endemics and the quasi-endemic Red-collared Mountain Babbler. The Park also offers other unique attractions, such as the Canopy walkway, waterfalls, hiking, Chimpanzee tracking.
