Emeraude Kivu Resort is located in Rusizi town (former Cyangugu), in close proximity to both the Kamembe airport and the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Resort is adjacent to Lake Kivu and close to several islands.
We have a vast lush garden with 40 birds species identified to date, including the rare Madagascar Squacco Heron and the Grey Parrot.
On a boat or kayak (organised by the Resort on request), you can visit the various islands and spot the Great Cormorant, Yellow-billed Duck and the Common Sandpiper.
The Resort is only 45 minutes away from the Nyungwe National Park, which hosts more than 300 bird species, including 29 Albertine Rift endemics and the quasi-endemic Red-collared Mountain Babbler. The Park also offers other unique attractions, such as the Canopy walkway, waterfalls, hiking, and Chimpanzee tracking.
We have trained and experienced birdwatching guides who can also offer other guiding experiences. Should you be interested, please contact our reception for more information.
